Poker pot II

Pot odds in a poker game may not always be fixed and can also be calculated on expected value. So, if a player has a drawing had whereby he can improve his had to a winning one by drawing an out, then his pot odds is estimated by the projected value of his hand while he faces betting action. This is arrived at by the ratio of the pot odds of the player to the odds of his drawing an out giving him the hand with which he can win the pot. If the player’s chances of drawing a winning out are higher than his pot odds, he is said to have a positive expectation and in case the pot odds is higher, then the player has a negative expectation, in which situation he stands to win less dough than that he spends as his bat amount for calling.

In poker games, the implied pot odds allow for projected betting action in subsequent stage of play while estimating the pot odds. To calculate implied odds situations are taken into account where the player does not lose any additional wagers if he fails to draw an out and folds his hand along with the chances that if he does make a draw, he invariably stands to win the additional wagers. This means that the player minimizes his loss and maximizes his gain and so, the extra wagers he expects to win is added to the ongoing pot size giving a modified value of the pot called implied pot.

In turn round of a Texas Hold ‘em game, the pot size is $10 and a player, with a drawing hand and four possible winning cards, must make $1 call. If there is more betting action, then the player stands to lose money by calling with 10-to-1 pot odds. But if the opponent is expected to call in response to this player’s call in the river round, then he has the option to fold without losing any money. Thus the implied pot odds becomes 11-to-1 and has a positive expectation value.
